Basse is The Gambia’s easternmost town. It lies on the south bank of the River Gambia making it a key trading and transportation hub for the wider region. In spite of this, many families live on the brink of poverty and since healthcare and nutrition are so poor in this part of the Gambia, many children lose their parents at a young age. The SOS Village currently provides a loving home and family for 108 children who found themselves with no one able to care for them.
Since 2014 Dr. Oetker UK have chosen to help the lives of 12 of these children, pledging to provide for their full care for the entire year. They will be able to attend the SOS Nursery or SOS Primary school neighbouring the village and when they become older, the local secondary school. The children are also given any medical care they need.
We are committed to supporting this important cause, now and in the future, to ensure the on-going welfare of these deserving children.
