How to Prepare

GET BAKING! Here’s your check list, Grab an apron, tie long hair back, then wash your hands with soapy water. Make sure you have the help of an adult, now let’s start your baking fun! Please read the safety message on the back of pack before you begin. Step 1 - MAKE THE CUPCAKES<CRLF>

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 180°C/ 160°C fan/ gas mark
  2. Take care when using the oven. Ask a grwon up for help.
  3. Put the cupcake cases into a cupcake tray.
  4. Mix together in a bowl the baking mix, margarine, milk and the egg. Then whisk (by hand or using an electric mixer) for 2-3 minutes or until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Ask a grown up for help, take care using the electric mixer.
  5. Spoon the mixture evenly into the 12 cupcake cases.
  6. Bake in the oven for 25 minutes or until the cupcakes are a light golden colour. Ask a grown up for help, take care when using the oven.
  7. Remove from the oven, get a grown up to help, (be careful they are hot) and allow them to cool completely before decorating. Step 2 - FOR THE BUTTERCREAM ICING
  8. Firstly beat the margarine until soft. Ask a grown up to help.
  9. Add the buttercream mix and beat with an electric mixer on medium power or by hand until the buttercream is light and fluffy. Add small amonts of milk if a smooter lighter buttercream is preferred.
  10. Spread the buttercream evenly over the 12 cupcakes. Step 3 - GLOW IN THE DARK ICING
  11. Empty the glow in the dark icing sachet into a bowl or mug. Start by adding 1½ tsps of water and stir well, If it is a little thick add a few more drops of water. It is best to add small amounts of water at a time, it is easier to decorate with thicker icing and you can always add a little more water but you can’t take it away.
  12. Use the glow in the dark icing to drizzle or decorate onto your cupcakes, turn out the lights and use your torch to see them glow. Top Tip 1 - Find the darkest place in your house, make sure all the lights are out and the curtains are closed when you use your torch to make sure you get the most out of your glow in the dark cupcakes. Top Tip 2 - Pipe the glow in the dark icing to create more detailed designs. If you don’t have a piping bag you can make one using a freezer bag. Simply put your icing into a freezer bag and snip off the corner and pipe. Storing your cakes Decorated cupcakes can be stored in an air tight container but should be eaten within 4 days.
